These position will be responsible for maintaining the highest quality of technical operations, managing technical staff, accomplishing all pre-production duties in accordance with written guidelines and timelines, enforcing company policies and guidelines, and contributing to company growth.

Responsibilities Common to All FT Technical Staff

  • Make independent judgments and evaluations of company policies, activities, operational guidelines and co-workers. Suggest needed changes and implement them as directed.

  • Communicate regularly and openly with supervisors and ownership about the direction and effectiveness of one’s department and the operational activities of the company – keeping them informed of any situations requiring attention. 

  • Suggest any strategic alliances with other companies or individuals, and follow up as directed.

  • Maintain consistent awareness of timelines, to-dos, and messages.

  • Ensure that both venue and company policies are followed by all employees.

  • Approach work with a constructive mind-set and the ability to maintain an outwardly positive attitude when in the presence of employees, vendors, and clients.

  • Maintain oversight of your department by checking on progress throughout the day to ensure that everyone is on task and will have the work completed in the time allotted.

  • Professional communication, appearance, organizational skills, initiative.

Responsibilities by Function

Technical Operations

  • Perform on-site department head duties, as well as occasionally fill various other positions as assigned. Perform all functions as necessary for the show. These include stage management, operation of lighting, sound, or rigging systems, managing setup, load-in and strike, and any other physical involvement needed for successful technical operations.

  • Supervise, manage, and oversee technical crew – ensuring a safe and positive work environment and that company policies and guidelines are enforced.

  • Make technical decisions in accordance with operational and budget needs and find technical solutions as issues arise.

  • Make every effort to stay within the budget for each and every show. Make clients aware of probable overages before they occur in accordance with company policies.

  • Establish and maintain expertise on the technical systems of assigned SAS venues.

Pre-Production, Administrative, and Maintenance Duties

  • Attend and facilitate meetings, walk thrus, and tech scouts with incoming shows.

  • Actively initiate communication with shows, discuss venue production capabilities and policies, create production schedules, book equipment vendors, prepare estimates, and communicate information as needed.   

  • Complete and distribute any drawings needed to accomplish show responsibilities.

  • Thoroughly discuss all technical and show information with the Production Manager to ensure success for day-of operations.

  • Research and compile indications of employee’s job performance – and make recommendations for scheduling to the Production Manager.

  • Create and maintain a maintenance plan for all company and venue equipment and tools. Suggest and research new equipment purchases. Oversee the use of all equipment and that it is operated safely. Maintain technical expertise of all equipment in general use at our venues and by our employees.

General Duties

  • Position will typically work on all days that we have crew calls.

  • Attend occasional venue meetings and walk-thrus, take notes, distribute information as needed.

  • Occasionally work on SAS office maintenance / renovations as needed.

  • Perform on-site crew work as assigned to non-venue calls. 

  • Maintain regular phone availability – including after hours.

  • Regularly check your company email and respond in a timely manner.

Compensation

Starting pay rate will be based upon experience within a range of $20 - $40 per hour and will include regular cost of living and performance-based increases. Employment includes enrollment in the company group health plan, vacation time, and all typical paid leave per the state of California. There is a 6 month probationary period for all new FT employees.
